Bryce Canyon was our second stop of our trip to Utah/Arizona. We started at the Grand Canyon, stopped in Page, Arizona and then made our way to Bryce Canyon. It is located about 2.5 hours NW of Page, Arizona and about 1 hour and 20 minutes NE of Zion National Park.
Bryce Canyon is known for its many Hoodoos. Hoodoos (irregular columns of rock) exist on every continent, but Bryce Canyon contains the largest concentration found anywhere on Earth!
During our stay in Bryce we stayed at Ruby’s Inn RV Park & Campground. The location is perfect because its only one mile from the entrance of Bryce Canyon. Also, a short walk away are a lot of shops and general stores.
One of the many awesome things about Bryce Canyon is that there is a complimentary shuttle that takes you anywhere you’d want to go (April-October). You can park once and see the whole park with ease. Shuttles arrive at each stop every 15 minutes. In our opinion the best places to get the shuttle are Stop 1 (Bryce Canyon City- just outside the park) or Stop 6 (Visitor Center).Β We parked the RV just across the street from the Visitors center and hopped on the shuttle from there.
We stopped at the four most iconic viewpoints of Bryce Canyon National Park (Bryce, Inspiration, Sunset, and Sunrise Points).
We hiked the parks most popular trail – the Queen’s Garden/Navajo Combination loop. I’d consider it a moderate 3 mile hike. Sunset point is the starting and ending point for this hike. From sunset point you’ll walk on the rim trail towards sunrise point – this is a flat, easy walk with amazing views of Bryce. The Queen’s Garden Trail starts at sunrise point – from here you’ll begin to descend 320 feet. After about a mile you’ll connect to the Navajo loop trail. The popular attractions on this trail are Wall Street (slot canyon), Thor’s Hammer and Two Bridges. There are two ways to the top: Wall Street or Two Bridges – either one you chose, it is a 0.6 mile strenuous climb to the top but worth every second.
Once you are at the top, you’ll be back at sunset point. We went up Wall Street so when we got to the top we took a quick detour down to see Thor’s Hammer. The views from the top to this point are incredible and if you can’t do the whole Garden trail this will be a great hike to feel like you saw enough. There are also plenty of benches on the rim trail to sit and relax. Just don’t feed the wildlife! (Squirrels, groundhogs, birds) It’s tough to resist but they are smart and will beg you for any food you have.
