It’s no wonder that the Grand Canyon is one of the 7 wonders of the world and if it’s not on your bucket list, it should be! I remember the very first time I saw the Grand Canyon on TV it was on an episode of the Brady Bunch. I remember how in awe they were, and I knew one day, I’d make it there.

The Grand Canyon was the first part of a road trip that continued with Zion NP and Bryce Canyon NP.

At least for me, I didn’t realize just how GRAND this canyon was. It takes hours to drive from the North Rim to the South rim. I knew we’d only have time to do one rim and I quickly discovered there’s much more to see/do around the South rim- so south rim it was!

We were in an RV and I found there was one RV park inside the park – Trailer Village RV park. By the time I was booking this trip (6-7 months in advance) there was no availability. (They recommend booking a year in advance) I wound up finding an RV park that was right outside the south entrance station (about a 5-minute drive).

The RV Park was everything you could need- full hookups, bathrooms, and a general store around the building. There was also a Starbucks right near the entrance. Inside the RV park office was a sweet elder lady who was very helpful and knowledgeable on all things grand canyon such as tours, hikes ETC.

Day 1

On the first day we decided we were going to hike the Bright Angel Trail. This is the most popular hiking trail into Grand Canyon. This trail offers incredible views, morning and afternoon shade, rest houses, vault toilets, and drinking water during the summer. Β Everything I read about this trail was BE PREPARED – water, food, cooling clothes, etc. That morning we hit the general store, grabbed some sandwiches to enjoy at the bottom and made sure we had plenty of water.

We decided we were going to hike to Indian Garden.Β  Check our our blog post highlighting the Bright Angel Trail here

This hike is definitely an all day event. Knowing we’d be pretty spent at the end, we didn’t plan anything else for our first day.

Day 2

We needed something a little less challenging after day 1 so we decided to walk the Rim Trail. The Rim Trail stretches from the South Kaibab Trailhead west to Hermits Rest, a distance of approximately 13 miles (21 km). Most of the trail is paved.

We parked at the South Rim Visitor Center and Village and entered the trail near Mather point. We walked about 3 miles which brought us to the trailhead for Bright Angel Trail. There are a bunch of cool lookouts along the way so we made sure to stop and enjoy the incredible views. We ate and early dinner over by Hopi point and stuck around to watch the sunset back near Mather Point.

Our experience at the Grand Canyon was a wonderful one and we will definitely be back one day!
